Let me give a few thoughts on this.

  • Some people think Anderson Silva is bluffing, but I don’t think that is his style.  Some say he wants more money, and maybe this is part an attempt to geta  pay raise.  He deserves one, and he should be the best paid guy in the UFC.  Regardless of whether he retires after 6 fights or not he ought to make $500,000 per fight.  The UFC has a obligation to take care of him or he could fulfill his UFC contract and end up with Affliction.
  • Anderson seems like a loyal friend to the guys he trains with.  He doesn’t want to move up to 205 and geta  title shot because he believes his friend Lyoto Machida deserves that belt.  He won’t fight the #2 middleweight in the world, Paul Filho because he is a good friend.  I wonder if Silva wouldn’t retire just so the in-coming Paulo Filho would get the UFC belt?
  • I also think Anderson genuinely loves MMA and want to fight, but he wants to focus on training guys like Feijao and Galvao.
  • Anderson is wrong that his time is over.  He is better now than ever.
  • If he is not bluffing, we have to wonder how he can fit 6 fights in by June 2009.  It won’t happen, however, we may dream about the 6 fights (Cote, Okami, St. Pierre, Penn, Liddell, Maia, Bisping, Henderson, Marquardt are all intriguing)
  • I hope Anderson changes his mind.  I don’t think he is lying or pulling something, but I think he is dead serious right now.  I hope he has so much fun beating Cote that he can’t quit.
  • I hope Dana learned from Randy Couture’s situation, and will offer Anderson whatever he wants to keep him around.  There aren’t many guys that are worth what Anderson is worth.
