UFC News: UFC Signs British Heavyweight Neil Grove

The UFC has signed British heavyweight Neil Grove, according to a report by Fighters Only Magazine.

The report goes on to state that Grove has signed a four-fight contract with the promotion and that it’s possible his debut could come at UFC 95 on February 21 in London, England.

Here is FiveOuncesofPain’s write up about Grove…

Grove is 6-1 and comes from a background in Karate. The 6′6” behemoth might be best known for his 10 second knockout victory over James Thompson during his Cage Rage debut in July of 2007. The win was considered to be an upset at the time, as Grove was signed to the card as a last-minute replacement and he had fought just two times prior.

Following the Thompson victory, Grove would go on to win his next two bouts via first round stoppages, improving to 5-0. However, he suffered the first blemish on his record following a decision loss to Rob Broughton at Cage Rage 25. Grove would rebound at Cage Rage 27 this past July, where he recorded his second career TKO victory over Robert “Buzz” Berry.

I have been very critical of the UFC’s weak heavyweight division, however it looks like they are really trying to remedy it.  The UFC of course added their new champ, Brock Lesnar.  They promoted Nogueira and Mir through The Ultimate Fighter.  They have signed guys like Shane Carwin, Cain Velasquez and Patrick Barry who are good prospects.  Also, do not sleep on Mustapha Al-Turk who enters the UFC at UFC 92 in a baptism of fire against Cheick Kongo.  The UFC has reportedly been courting Jeff Monson.  Oh yeah, don’t forget that Randy Couture is back.   I do not think that the Heavyweight division is weak anymore.
